“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.”

Ferris Bueller

Last week I spent 5 days in sunny California running a special project for my company and I took some time to enjoy the sunny California weather. Being that we are in the midst of the mid-western fall season I knew that my mid-western life would soon lose the wonderful sunshine of summer.

One afternoon I walked out onto the parking lot outside of the building I was working at and sat on the curbstone near my rented white 2016 Nissan Altima. Now I will tell you that although the car was beautiful, the landscape and scenic hills surrounding the valley were a sight to see, they did not compare to the warmth of the sunshine that enveloped me like a warm embrace from heaven.

It made me recall once when as a boy on a warm summer day I stretched myself over our picnic table. As I lay there on that picnic table, made warm by the afternoon sun, I closed my eyes and felt the sunshine on my face and entire body. It was the most relaxing sensation I had ever experienced and to this day I enjoy a good healthy dose of sunshine.

As many of you know, I spend a great deal of time cycling for fun and exercise and let me tell you that I prefer to ride on warm to hot summer days as opposed to cool mornings or cold afternoons. There’s just something about sunshine that leaves me feeling fulfilled and refreshed.

All of this sunshine I experienced last week made me think of the Song by John Denver called Sunshine. Read the words below:

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

If I had a day that I could give you
I’d give to you a day just like today
If I had a song that I could sing for you
I’d sing a song to make you feel this way

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

If I had a tale that I could tell you
I’d tell a tale sure to make you smile
If I had a wish that I could wish for you
I’d make a wish for sunshine all the while

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

Sunshine by John Denver

I think that John the right idea when he wrote this song. You may not know this about the late John Denver, but he was an outdoors kind of guy and I’m sure he felt the same way as I about the warm embrace of sunshine.

One last thing I’d like to say about sunshine. It’s a universal sign of calm and security, of hope and the expression of love. If you can, I highly recommend that you get a daily dose of sunshine in your life.
