The best thing you’ve got going for you is individuality.

Listen to commentary on today’s post here.
It’s not often that I steal a tag line from a popular commercial, but I just had to today.
If I were to ask all of you to draw a picture of a caveman I can almost guarantee that every one of your drawings would be different. Below are three different interpretations from three different artists.
Isn’t it a great thing that we’re all different? That we all think differently and interpret the world around us differently? How boring would the world be if we all did everything, thought of everything, and interpreted everything exactly the same? What if all three artists drew the same caveman?
And the winner is….Boring!
Makes sense right? So why do you always compare yourself to others and think that others are better than you are? Stop it! Your interpretation, life experience and feelings toward the task at hand are just different. Thinking differently isn’t wrong it’s just you and who you are.
You have to begin to embrace who you are and stop trying to fit into the mold that others want you to fit into, otherwise, you’re going to be miserable. That is of course unless you’re willing to be miserable so that everyone around you can be happy. It’s your call.
Like everything else, embracing your unique way of doing, being, and acting is going to take practice. It’s going to feel weird at first since you’re used to being, acting, and doing just like everyone else.
There will be times when you have to be, do, or act as expected because that’s just a part of belonging to a society, but don’t hesitate when you have the chance to practice your caveman. When you’re uniqueness can come through and reveal things to you about yourself. The gift of self-discovery is truly a gift worth embracing.
It really is so easy a caveman could do it!
