Stress is an important dragon to slay – or at least tame – in your life.
Did you know that April is National Stress Awareness Month? Like we need a reminder that some 70% of us are under constant stress from job, death, divorce and other such life altering experiences.
Google “how to be happy” and you’ll find 249,000,000 web articles to help you find happiness! Google “stress” and you’ll find a whopping 649,000,000 results! What the heck is happening to us?
This morning I heard about some guy who shot an elderly gentleman live on Facebook! My personal circle of friends and family are now hoping that they don’t run into this random shooter. Locally a young lady was found murdered and her neighbors are freaking out wondering who’s next.
I have a friend who’s working ungodly hours to fulfill the duties of his job, I know people who have spent good money on a four-year degree who are currently over qualified for the only role they could find, which has nothing to do with their degree, all in an attempt to make ends meet.
I’ve talked to people who are thinking that they may never be able to afford a home of their own, don’t know how long their company is going to stay afloat, how long they can maintain their business above the red line, if they’ll spend the remainder of their life alone, or if they’ll make their 80th birthday.

My Google searches on stress and the problems it’s causing are causing me to stress out right now! I have no idea how TV news anchors do their jobs since almost every story has to do with a human tragedy, world problems, greed and other assorted negative stress causing topics.
I don’t have the answer to the stress problems that we’re all facing as a nation of overachievers, but I do have a great resource for you to look into.
M. J. Ryan wrote a wonderful book called How to Survive Change…you didn’t ask for.
Ms. Ryan has a wonderful writing style and the book is well worth the read. I’m sorry that I don’t have ready answers for you today but only advice to seek those answers in resources like Ms. Ryan’s book. In her book, you’ll learn how to look at yourself and your circumstances differently, how to utilize your support network, think creatively, and find new opportunities.
There’s a lot of living to do my friends and we can’t lose the game simply because we have not learned the techniques on defeating that dream killer, life taker, fat producing hormone called stress. We do not have to be victims to stress and it’s related badness, but nothing is going to change of we do not take proactive measures to learn to beat this.
We owe it to ourselves, our families and our society to be the best that we can be, and stress management is one of the more important skills we should master.
