Break The Rules, You Might Like It!

I want to try new things and put myself out there and take some risks.

-Cam Gigandet-

I was surprised last week when I met someone who happened to be interested in writing a blog.  I shared some helpful hints and gave her some information to get her started.  Then I thought that perhaps there are others out there who would like to start blogging but have no idea where to start.

I have found that writing a blog has helped me to better solidify the things I’ve learned and share with you each day.  I’ve heard it said that a great way to learn new concepts is to teach them.  That’s because you have to recall and explain what you have learned in your own words.  How better can one make things stick than to have to dissect what we’ve learned to share it with others!

The first step is to decide what you want to write about.  Keep in mind that you can change or morph your topic later.  It’s all about growth and the evolution that you’ll go through as you begin to write.  That’s what happened to me, my idea was to teach basic business concepts and I veered off into self-improvement and goal attainment.

Next, find a blogging platform like, which is where I host my blogs, then follow the simple steps and just start writing.

Get the word out.  Tell everyone about your blog, don’t be embarrassed that you’re stretching yourself, just be proud that you’ve started something new.

Share your blog on your favorite social media so that others can find you and you can begin to build loyal readers.

Be yourself.  Don’t try and be Dr. Phil or Oprah Winfrey.  Be you.

Write as often as you like but stay consistent.  I started writing every day then I switched to a few times a week then I stopped for a few weeks and lost all of my readers.  I had to begin all over again.  Now I write Monday through Friday no matter what.  Vacation, trips away for work, whatever.  I stay consistent.

Enjoy the ride.  I’ve been writing for over a year now and have 170 posts written.  It’s become easier to do as time has gone by, but it’s still as much fun as the first post was.

That’s it!  It’s a great way to share what you know and perhaps gain some credibility in your chosen topic or field.  Break your old rules and try something new and see how you might attain some unrealized potential inside of you.

Good luck and be sure to share your new blog with me  You can use the Contact Me button at the top of my blog.
