If you don’t like the road you’re walking, start paving another one.
How do we keep our drive alive even though we have no idea what it is we’re shooting for? In other words, you don’t know what it is you want to be when you grow up! I think more than are willing to admit are in this exact place. I’ve heard statistics that say 80% of the working population is dissatisfied with their current job.
So there you are, day after day, week after week, trudging through your 9-5, 2-10, 10-6 or whatever other iteration of a work schedule might exist. Thinking almost every day that you need a change but feeling like there’s no light bulb going off, or no significant opportunities making themselves known.
You’re not going to like what I’m about to say because I say it all of the time. Read. Reading primes your mind to see things that you couldn’t see before. It helps you change your blueprint so that what you don’t know you’re looking for will be more apparent when it does show up.
Let me give you an example of how reading can change the world around you. A number of years ago I read the book Whale Done by Ken Blanchard. It’s an easy read, so it didn’t take me long to incorporate the book’s ideas into my management style, and it didn’t take long to see the results in my staff, excellent results that I never knew were possible.
When I started my first business I did so because of the state my mind was in from reading so much. After I achieved some success I stopped reading and sold the business, dumb move.
Books open up a whole new world of thoughts, ideas, and possibilities that you can learn from and change your world, your life, and can help you find your calling sooner.
Reading books is key to keeping your drive alive as you attempt to reach a goal already written in stone, or are trying to find something that fulfills you before you do write it in stone. Either way, a good business or self-growth book can do wonders to keep you going down the road to success.
I’ll see you when you get there!
You can see my favorite books list here . Be sure to check back from time to time because I add to it every month. This month I’m working on two books that will make the list soon I’m sure. You can also find the link on the menu at the top of this page.
