What Would Yoda Do?

Do, or do not, there is no try.

Ok, how the hell do I add anything to the teachings of The Grand Master Jedi, Yoda?  Oh, I know…I’m real!  I also write my own blog!  Awesome!

So here we are, lamenting our dull and uneventful life just like the young Luke Skywalker as he attempts to learn the ways of the Jedi in the swampy terrain of Dagobah.   I think that’s somewhere outside of Erie Pensylvania.

Poor me, I can’t seem to make anything happen.  I just want to give up before even trying. To which Yoda would say, “Fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate…hate leads to suffering.”  Dude, haven’t you suffered enough with the fear and the anger?  Get up and start planning!  Make some moves, big or small, just do something with some forward momentum.

But I have no idea what to do with my life.  To which Yoda would say, “Truly wonderful the mind of a child is.”  Oh, pleeeeas!  Even a child can imagine all sorts of wonderful things he or she would like to be.  Use that imagination of yours and think as if anything were possible.  Think outside of the box you’re living in.  Think, think, think…then think some more.

I’m too old to make a change, I don’t have the experience, I don’t think I have what it takes.  To which Yoda would say, “That is why you fail.”  Your words are killing you, your dreams and your future.  I just read something by Tony Robbins that says a full 60% of words to describe emotion are negative.  It’s time to choose your self-talk wisely.  You’re building your own future with your very own words…choose your words carefully.

But I don’t have enough money, time, experience, etc. To which Yoda says, Judge me by my size, do you”?  Come on little miss pity party!  Yoda’s lifting whole space ships out of the swamp just by thinking about it.  Surely with the right idea, motivation and work ethic, you can find the resources needed.  I’m not saying you even have to go before the crazies on the MSN show – The Sharks.  Again Tony Robbins comes to the rescue…it’s not about resources, it’s about resourcefulness.  Your size isn’t important…you are.

Done am I with the quotes from Yoda.

Sometimes it helps for us to see our issues from the silly side.  A 900-year-old Jedi puppet from the Empire Strikes Back can really make us feel like losers for all of the excuses we put out in an attempt to run from our dreams.  Right?

Look, I get it.  Moving upwards in life isn’t easy, it’s like walking up a steep hill as gravity attempts to pull us back down towards the valley.  There are kids to worry about, food to put on the table, cars to pay for, utilities, mortgages, birthdays, colleges, repairs, medical expenses, and all sorts of other commitments that need our full attention and effort.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.  Even small steps towards our goal are better than no steps at all.  We cannot fall into the mindset of overnight success.  This is a marathon, not a sprint. The overnight success blessing is rare, I mean, look at Yoda.  He’s 900 years old, lives in a stinky swamp, has no neighbors, and is attempting to teach an impetuous young man how to be a warrior…and he’s not complaining that he doesn’t know what to do with his life.
